A Girl Can Dream...

My heart skipped a beat when Mr. Big finally made his true commitment to Carrie...WHEN HE GAVE HER THE CLOSET OF HER DREAMS! It was then when she accepted the fact that a wedding would never make her as happy as that closet would. A flood of thoughts started entering my brain--"Could I turn my computer room into one huge closet?" I wish I had the authority here to do so, but I will someday! Here are some amazing closet pics to make you swoon. Do you think Ikea can make something like this...like now!?

Calling all Hypochondriacs!

Visit WebMD much? I admit...I freak out sometimes about unusual things going on in my body. I think all of us suffer from a little hypochondrium. If you’re the type to skip the doctor’s visit and do some research on your own, check out this article from Wall Street Journal. It might give you some answers to funny things you might have found on your body. For example, sometimes I get little bumps on the outside of my eyelids and I always thought I just needed a good scrub. Well, this article explains that it might be the cause of high cholesterol. Click on the interactive graphics and go from body part to body part with this great roll-over-the-body-area-feature. Search for the most likely causes for everything from excess facial hair to feeling cold all over, brittle nails, and spider veins.

Now, don’t get all ‘sick in the head’ about it…It’s just a website!

Paying my Respects to Michael Jackson

We lost a legend this week. A musical icon who was an inspiration for so many other artists for the last 4 decades. I remember NEEDING to have a glittered glove just because Michael had one. As Erika said, "MJ is singing in heaven where no one can judge him." I like to think he moonwalked his way up there!

R.I.P. Jacko!

Friday Faves – Etsy Art Finds

Etsy. I had always heard about it but never really knew what it was, and I preferred eBay for all my online shopping and selling anyway. Recently I have been introduced to really unique art posted by my fellow bloggers, and I’m now a huge fan. For those of you who also aren’t familiar with Etsy, it’s a website for the general public to buy and sell handmade items, including-but-not-limited-to art, jewelry, photography, clothing, and in my cousin’s case, BirdyPups! These sellers and buyers take a “Handmade Pledge” to support each other. It’s a cute little community that I hope to be a part of someday.

Here are my Friday Faves artists/sellers:
Jennifer Ramos from MadeByGirl has this little shop, selling her fun prints that would look great framed and mounted!

Today, Lucky Magazine featured artist, Amparo Lopez, with regard to her shop. She sells botanical art; compositions with real pressed seaweeds!

I love the idea of fabric wall art! Ikea and Crate & Barrel are usual sources for fun fabric, but from now on I’m going to Fabric Supplies by Charlie and Lindsay. So many prints to choose from, I can’t make a decision! (I have a little DIY project coming up in the near future)…

Happy Weekend friends!

The Kooky & Creative Interior Designer, Jonathan Adler

I keep reading about this Jonathan Adler character on the blogs I follow. I did a little research and I can't believe it's taken me this long to know who he is! I've decided he's my new God. This guy is a genius! He actually has a cool story too. He learned about pottery as a kid at Summer Camp. As an adult, he decided he would be a potter. He showed some of his samples to Barney's in NYC and they placed orders! He continued his art with furniture, textiles, and so on, and now has stores all over the U.S. He's also one of the celebrity judges for Bravo's Top Design reality show!

Anyway, I read that he has a store on Lincoln Road and I headed straight there on my lunch break today. Oh. My. God. It's the most adorable store I've ever seen! Here is a pic of what it looks like.Although some of his creations are a little quirky, and I admit I probably wouldn't use it in my home, I still love it all! Here are some examples of his designs.
And here's the best part, after coming straight home to continue the research, I found that he was the mastermind behind Barbie's Malibu Dream House for Barbie's 50th Anniversary. If you don't know what I'm talking about, click here. But I beg you, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE watch Jonathan Adler's video tour of the Dream House. If you don't have the time, see some pics below. It's every girl's dream!

"K & K Take Miami" Trailer

Yea or Nay? I'm just always curious as to how people view Miami?

Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland

Smoking caterpillars, invisible cats, cookies that make you grow or shrink--Alice in Wonderland is all so adorably screwed up. Tim Burton's new version of Lewis Carroll's classic will be even more screwed up and definitely something to look forward to. It stars Johnny Depp (of course) and Anne Hathaway (my fav), and is set to be released on March 5, 2010. Take a look at the freakishly amazing costumes and make-up!

Friday Faves - Most Useful Tools

There are a load of tools that a girl must have in order to survive in this crazy world: curling iron, manicure set, sewing kit, etc. Here are a few more to be added to that list that have made some significance in my life.
The Wet Brush: My hair gets REALLY knotty after washing it. Detangling usually takes me 15 long minutes of agony. My hair dresser recently used The Wet Brush on me, and the rest is history. It was completely ouchless and only took about 5 strokes to get it perfectly detangled. I like to think it's got magic bristles! I searched through all of Miami for it and found the best deal here. Best $15 I've ever spent.

Slim Velvet Hangers: I'm one of the lucky ones. Although it's not walk-in, I think I have a pretty big closet that stretches from one end of my room to the other. The only problem is that I have no space. Well, actually that was the past. I now have lots of space and I owe it all to these slim hangers. They have added extra space in my closet for those items still on my wish list :) and they look nice too! I've been eyeing these for about a year now and I finally found the best price! Find them at Costco: 50 for about $15! (Compared to Bed, Bath & Beyond: 50 for $40)

V-Shaped Cuticle Cutter: After deciding I would try to do my own manicures for a while, I went to CVS in search for new tools. I found this V-shaped cuticle cutter, and gave it a shot. I found that it's sooo much easier to use than the regular clipper kind. Simply slide the V under your cuticle and it comes right off! I can't remember the brand but it was only about $3.

Let me know if any of you use these tools. I'd like to know your opinion! :) Hope it makes your life easier too!

Lily Allen - The Fear

I don't really watch too many music videos anymore, but I just came across Lily Allen's new one for The Fear. It's as adorable as I expected it to be. I love her.

And P.S. I wish I was her roommate. That room is sweet!

I see London, I see France...

So gosh darn cute! Most of you know I make maps for a living. Yeah, I'm a mapper. I guess after 6 years they've grown on me. This little French online shop called Famille Summerbelle, makes these quirky maps of London and Paris to use as wall art. They're actually made for children's rooms but I think it's cool enough for ME! Imagine the Paris map, backed with black matting, framed with a nice antique looking white frame...Charming!

Day 5 & 6 & 7 in Playa: Back to Reality

We're baaaaack! I apologize for the interruption on my daily posts. I knew things were too good to be true when I finally caught a "bug". We went out for dinner at an American place on Night #5 (it was recommended by a friend) and it turned out to be 1,200x worse than I expected. Needless to say, I spent the whole Day #6 in bed. Nelz was able to go out and enjoy some other yummy places in between taking care of me and my "bug".

This morning was a sad realization that our vacation was over. We packed our bags and headed for the airport again. I can honestly say this was one of the best vacations we've been on together. We relaxed, got some sun, ate some great food, and we will remember this forever.

Check out the slide show below for a little sample of our best memories of Playa!

Day 4 & 5 in Playa

After all the sailing from yesterday, we could barely open our eyes at night. If it wasn't for Nelz's tummy grumbling letting us know it was dinner time, we would have never woken up. Thank goodness we did, though! We went to a place called 100% Natural that served real fruit smoothies and delish fish entrees. We walked up and down 5th Ave to walk it all off.

Today I was set on getting a massage. There are tons of places here that offer very cheap massages. After researching online, we found Veronica's Massages. For only $30 USD I got a one-hour massage. It was amazing, however I recommend that you get yours at the beginning of your trip. My shoulders were a little too sun-burned to be able to really enjoy it. But I still left there feeling like noodles.

Tonight, we hope to party it up. During the week it's been kind of quiet. All of the clubs and bars will open up starting tonight for the rest of the weekend. We plan on going back to Blue Parrot where ladies drink free and everyone is happy :)

Day 3 & 4 in Playa

Ok, I know what you're thinking. "All she writes about is how great Playa is. There HAS to be something that sucks." Sorry to disappoint you, buds! It keeps getting better and better. I hope each and every one of you comes here so that you can see it for yourself!

Last night we went for dinner at Playasia, an Asian gourmet playland of sorts recommended by Mr. Mardini himself. From the outside, you would never believe there is a whole world of Asian-themed ponds and treehouses inside. It's an open restaurant and all of the tables sit on bridges. Coy fish swim right under you! There are also some private "treehouses" that have amazing hanging chandeliers. At the end of our yummy meal, they asked us to feed their fish. I had a blast playing with them! (I was able to upload this pic but it took FOREVER!)
Anyone who knows me, knows I hate breakfast food. I just do. Not a fan of eggs or omellettes or anything but bagels in the morning. This morning we had to check out La Cueva de Chango. Another hole-in-the-wall that completely surprises you once you step foot inside. It's a cave with really pretty hanging lanterns inside. My mom would be proud. I actually ate all my breakfast! I couldn't pass it up!

Then, we were off to the beach again. This time we went to Kool Beach Club. We took a sailboat ride to the waters between Cancun and Playa and snorkeled a bit. Our sailor dude got brave and started racing another sailboat. Do you know how fast a sailboat can go??! Crazy!

Hasta manana, amigos!

Day 1 & 2 in Playa

Yes!! Nelz got the USB to upload my pics!
Boo!! It takes a year to upload pics to Blogger here. I will try to get some pics in, but if it takes too long (first pic is still loading...erg!) I will provide you with a fun slideshow once I'm back in Miami.

Day 1 and 2 have been great so far. This place has exceeded our expectations. The people are friendly and in no way pushy, the architecture is beautiful and modern (like a high-class version of the Mexico part of Epcot), the beaches are pristine, and the food is delish! After we settled in and had some lunch, we went to Mamita's Beach Club. Long story short, Nelz and I are already sun-burned. We changed and went to dinner at Karen's, a cute little Mexican restaurant with a live band. Once they started with Celia Cruz songs, we couldn't help but dance. A little embarassing, but really funny! This morning we went to Blue Parrot Beach Club and stayed in the shade as much as possible. I still managed to get ANOTHER sun-burn even through those umbrellas! We are getting ready to find another place for dinner tonight! I'll keep you updated tomorrow!

Day 1 in Playa: But with some Technical Difficulties

Amigos! We've made it! We are in Playa and LOVING IT!!! It's not at all what we imagined it to be. We arrived at the Cancun airport yesterday at around 2pm. The Customs line was quick and our baggage was already waiting for us on the carousel. So far so good...until we saw that our driver (a friend of David's) was no where to be found. Needless to say, he forgot. So we took an air-conditioned shuttle van to our place of residence for the next week. It's AMAZING!! Very modern with white couches everywhere, nicely trimmed greenery, and crystal clear pools. The best part? There is NO ONE here! I think there is just one other condo in use in the building. So relaxing! We dropped our baggage and we were off to find tacos...yes! We walked along the main street (5th Ave.) and found La Parrilla. One mango margarita later, I was happy :) I had the best lobster tacos and Nelz had carne asada. It really was just as good as it sounds. Then we had to get the expected...THE GOOSE! We hit up the local Wal-Mart (yes, they actually have that here) and stocked up on Mexican beer, Goose, mixers, and breakfast items. We walked 5th Ave. some more and then cooled off at the pool. I then realized that I didn't bring the USB cable to upload pics! This morning we went to Wal-Mart (again!) to buy the cable but we are still having some technical difficulties. Nelz is going to continue to work on it later, so hopefully I can document this trip a little better. Off to Mamita's beach now! It's supposed to be something like Nikki Beach with beds spread all over the place and a DJ spinning some clubby music. Adios!

Final Destination: Playa del Carmen!

Nelz and I are making our second attempt to go on vacation to Playa del Carmen, Mexico on Monday (or just Playa for short)! After having to cancel the previous booked trip due to that annoying Swine Flu crisis, we're MORE THAN READY NOW! This is my first Playa visit and I'm anxious to see the rumored Euro-style beach areas, restaurants, and bars. We are staying at my friend's condo on the beach called Magia Playa, and if these pictures below look appealing to you, I can give you his contact info.I hope to blog about our vacation as we're experiencing it from their WiFi area, but please forgive me if I'm too sandy and sun-soaked to type :) Jealous?

Friday Faves

Little items I became obsessed with this week...

I was waiting for these Michael Kors babies to go on sale and thank goodness I did!! Got a great deal. I love them with all my heart.

I know...very strange. Why do I love this piggy bank so much? I don't even save my pennies! But I HAD to get it. It looks really cute on my shelf! (P.S. That's not my shelf but I SO wish it was!)

Marc Jacobs Heart clutch. Looks like I'd have some fun wearing it. It comes in lots of colors too.

And finally, something I wished so desperately I could afford. Tiffany's new key pendants. Prices range but I'd take that little simple, plain, old silver one.
