I Popped the Question!

Ok, so there was no Tiffany ring in those blue boxes wrapped with the white satin ribbon...but it did make for a good excuse to ask my girls to be bridesmaids!

My friend Erika gave me the idea of asking my sister, cousins, friends, and sisters-in-law to be my bridesmaids by popping the question with ring pops! I thought it was perfect being that the theme I tried to keep was Breakfast at Tiffany's! I wrapped a candy ring pop in a blue box tied with a white bow. Inside the box read: "It's Melissa's turn to POP THE QUESTION!" Then a wrote a personalized message on a "Will You Be My Bridesmaid" notecard.

I thought it was hilarious...I hope they thought so too!

So without further adieu, I announce to you my bridesmaids!
Alina: My sister and Matron of Honor
Jenny: My cousin and Bridesmaid
Susie: My cousin and Bridesmaid
Nicky: My bestie and Bridesmaid
Annette: My bestie and Bridesmaid
Anais: My sister-in-law and Bridesmaid
Jessie: My sister-in-law and Bridesmaid (Although she's not here, she did receive her ring box via mail in California!...and she said Yes!)
And Ivelys: My bestie and Bridesmaid (I popped the question to her this weekend and that's why it took me so long to post this! I didn't want to ruin the surprise!)

Engagement Party: THE DECOR (Part Three)

My initial vision for this party was to have a Breakfast at Tiffany's theme. I first fell in love with the idea from the 2007 Martha Stewart Throws a Today Show Wedding. She worked on a wedding that was held at the actual Tiffany's store in NYC, and it was a brunch so the theme was perfect! Since my party was at night, I figured using the Tiffany blue color and diamonds all throughout the decor would suffice.

Dessert Table
  • Engagement cake made by Nicky
  • 3-tier silver stand with hanging gems, chocolate covered strawberries made by my sister, cream puff desserts
  • Digital frame flipping pictures of Fiance and I
  • Cork frame with congratulatory cards and old school pictures
  • Diamond gems

Beverage Table
  • Champagne tub
  • Swirly champagne glasses
  • Our famous engagement picture framed
Hors D'Ouevres
  • Melon sticks wrapped in prosciutto
  • Olive and cheese pinned with flags that read "Nelson & Melissa are Engaged"
  • Teriyaki and pineapple meatballs
  • Shrimp and cocktail sauce
  • Bruschetta with garlic toast
  • All on Tiffany blue and white servers!

Table Setting Outdoors
I was so excited to have everyone sit all together. We had a whole plan in place, but Mother Nature had her own plans. The rain continued all night, and some tables had to be moved inside last minute. How awful!
  • White tablecloths with Tiffany blue and white swirly runners
  • Diamond gems spread all over the runners
  • Tiffany blue cloth napkins rolled up into my own version of gemstone napkin rings
  • Small vases with white hydrangeas and white roses
  • Small tea lights
  • Hanging teal lanterns
  • The Christmas lights on trees never got to be turned on

Engagement Party: THE CAKE (Part Two)

I never imagined my Engagement Party cake would look THIS adorable when Nicky and I first discussed ideas and designs. It was PERFECT! We decided to use the same design on the invitation that I created on Illustrator using an image I found online.
I was trying to incorporate the Tiffany blue color theme throughout all the decor. A few blue-stained fingers later, and she achieved the perfect shade! It was a 2-tier round cake standing about a foot and a half tall! She made 3 layers and used her yummy cookies 'n cream recipe for the insides. The "proposing silhouette", pearls, and white bow are all edible too!

If you want to check out more of Nicky's work, click here! She can do it all, and is accepting all challenges!

Thank you for making the prettiest part of my party, Nicky! Love you!! XOXO

Our Engagement Party! (Part One)

This past weekend we celebrated our Engagement with our families and closest friends. After much planning (and a little bit of a downfall), it was a success! A huge thanks to everyone who shared our special day with us! We're STILL re-capping! Here are some pictures of the party in process. More pictures of other details to follow!

Who says you can't wear WHITE after Labor Day?

It's a silly rule. I never follow it, especially when wearing white is a common staple for a typical Miamian. Why NOT wear white? White looks great with a tan, it's fresh and clean, and let's face it...it sure beats wearing black in Miami's 100-degree September climate! Here are some white wants on my "to get" list.
J. Crew's white denim skinny jeans

White House Black Market's Ruffle Banded Blouse (I'm obsessed!)

White Converse All Stars

Anthropologie's Necklace Tank

And I can't ever regret my pre-Labor Day Michael Kors watch purchase. I will wear it all through this year until the next, and the next! I love it!

Friday Faves - Deconstructed Denim

There is nothing more comfortable than a good, old pair of %#$!-up jeans. With all the new distressed-yet-tasteful styles coming out now, I think I need a new pair. My Granny would be so proud! ...just kidding.
